LBC Listening Figures Corrected

LBC Listening Figures Corrected

RAJAR has reissued first quarter listening figures for two London stations after a reporting error was discovered.

According to Ipsos-RSL, which conducts the survey, a mix-up resulted from the incorrect coding of the listening between Chrysalis’ LBC 97.3 FM and LBC News 1152.

The revised figures reveal that Chrysalis Radio’s flagship FM talk station has grown more than initially documented, with a weekly reach of 447,000 and a 1.8% share of listening.

However, the mix-up also means that growth at LBC News 1152 AM was not as significant as first thought. The station had a weekly reach of 441,000, equivalent to 1.5% of all listening.

Chrysalis acquired LBC News 1152 AM and LBC 97.3, from GWR last year for £23.5 million (see Chrysalis Strengthens London Offering With LNR Acquisition).

LBC 97.3 FM recently relaunched (see Chrysalis Re-Launches LBC On FM Wavelength) and has benefited from a host of high profile signings including Caroline Feraday, Howard Hughes and Sun columnist Jane Moore (see Jane Moore To Join LBC Breakfast Show).

The stations face tough competition in the highly lucrative but volatile London market. RAJAR data for the first quarter of 2003 shows that the sector leader, Capital 95.8 FM, saw its weekly reach decline by 10.5% year on year (see RAJAR Results Q1 2003 – Capital 95.8 FM Feels The Heat In London).
