Test Automation Developer

Reports to: Head of Development
Hours: Full-time 35 hours per week

The Role

We are looking for an experienced test automation developer to join our growing team, working across our range of web applications and ad-tech products. At the heart of the role is the planning, design and execution of system testing — choosing an automated or manual approach for each piece of work based on the experience you possess.

Upon joining Mediatel, you will have the opportunity to establish a testing methodology from the ground up — with the autonomy in your role to adopt suitable technologies. This is particularly the case with regard to test automation where we are looking to review our approach. You might choose to work with technologies such as Selenium (PHP or Java WebDriver) — but nothing is preordained. Mediatel's software products are primarily built with PHP; our developers follow TDD practices with PHPUnit. You enjoy implemeting new ideas.

You understand the customer/users and have experience of analysing requirements and translating them into an adequate test plan. You are confident at breaking test scenarios down into detailed test cases and running those tests manually or have the expertise to efficiently code them up for automation in your chosen technology. You have good experience of working with databases and are competent at SQL. Many of our products are data-centric and some include transactional processing and complex data analysis.

You will work with our client support teams, who provide additional manual testing resource as necessary. You will be an integrated member of the development team, working together towards project goals within an agile framework. You will be an excellent communicator and keen to contribute as part of a team. You'll enjoy drawing on the experience of others in the team, while also having the confidence and thirst to research solutions to problems on your own. You recognise the importance of keeping others informed of your progress and will use tools like Jira / Bugzilla to facilitate that.

You will have opportunities to attend external training and conferences to ensure you remain at the top of your game. You are a fast learner. Our team comprises a range of expertise: coders, creatives and business/data analysts.
