Future Increases Gaming Magazine Frequency

Future Publishing has announced that it is to increase the frequency of its Official Playstation 2 Magazine brand extension, OPSM2: Special Editions to bimonthly, reflecting its faith in the games magazine market (see Future Banks On Games Mag Market Growth).

The increase follows the sales success of the title and an agreement with Sony. OPSM2: Special Editions’ publisher, Rob Pegley, said: “The move to a bimonthly schedule will allow us to cultivate better stocking policies, work on the consistency of the editorial product and generally give OPSM2: Special Editions an even greater opportunity to thrive.”

The first issue of the bimonthly series will go on sale on Thursday this week. Covermounted with ten playable demos, it will be priced at £5.99.

The title, previously a quarterly, recorded a first ABC result of 40,246 for July-December 2001, while its parent title was one of the best performers in the gaming market, with a year on year increase in circulation of 53.7% to 125,895. Reflecting the growing popularity of the PS2 as oppose to the original Playstation, the Official Playstation Magazine saw its circulation fall 52.5% to 102,332 (see NewsLine).
