Rivals Teams Up With Virgin Megastores For Football News

Digital sports company, Rivals Digital Media (RDM), has formed a marketing partnership with Virgin Megastores to promote the music chain’s new website.

Virgin will be targeting Rivals’ user base across its network of sports channels using emails and site banners to increase awareness of its own website. The music chain will also have promotional space in Rivals’ daily email newsletter, The Score, which is sent out to a registered user base of 175,000.

Zoe Bartels, head of new media for Virgin Megastores, commented: “The fit between RDM’s audience and our typical Virgin Megastore customer is spot on. Most of our customers are ardent football fans.”

In return, Rivals will provide football news headlines on Virgin’s instore radio station as well as on the Virgin Megastores’ website. According to Richard Pembroke, managing director of RDM: “With a footfall of 3.2 million across the Virgin Megastores estate per month, this deal widens the typical reach of Football 365’s online audience, while the banner advertising on Virgin Megastores’ site simultaneously provides RDM with targeted exposure to the sites’ user base, who are interested in sports-related products.”

Last month RDM secured the contract to create tailored SMS services for The Carphone Warehouse and The Link for the second year running (see Rivals Cashes In On Growing Demand For SMS Packages).
